Pilot Officer Alan Deere used this Spitfire to shoot down a Bf 109 on May 24 1940 and a Bf 110 on May 25th during action supporting the Dunkirk evacuation in France, where he was credited with seven victories (plus 1 shared, 1 unconfirmed, and 1 damaged) in just five days. On July 9 1940 this Spitfire was shot down by elements of II./JG 51 over the English Channel and its pilot RAF Pilot Officer A. Evershed was killed. No. 54 Squadron lost two other Spitfires in this action with a second pilot being killed and Alan Deere suffering minor burns upon being forced to land P9398 near Manston, Kent.

The Supermarine Spitfire is a British single-seat fighter aircraft used by the Royal Air Force and many other Allied countries during World War II and into the 1950s as a front line fighter and in secondary roles. The Spitfire was first flown on March 5, 1936 and entered service with the RAF on August 4 1938. It served in several roles, including interceptor, photo-reconnaissance, fighter bomber, carrier-based fighter, and trainer. The Spitfire was built in many variants, using several wing configurations. It was produced in greater numbers than any other British aircraft and was the only British fighter in continuous production throughout the war. When production ended in February 1948, a total of 20,351 Spitfires of all variants had been built.

Conditions generally appear Near Mint to Mint in generally Excellent box.

Boxed with certificate, opened box, has never been taken out of box, opened but we're told it never was taken out as you can see it still has the paper wrap around it, and appears undisturbed.. and definitely appears unused.  Box is Very Good condition with only a few scuffs (check out the picture)
